Her eyes watched as the Dragon watched the stream; the fish swam upstream, unaware of the beast looking down on them. The Dragon got closer to the stream, its face skimming the cold water and when a fish came in its sight, the beast pounced and caught the fish in its mouth. It tightened its jaw, killing the fish and then walked off.
The girl watched and stealthily followed. Through the forest they went, the beast unaware of her presence. 'Where are you going?' the girl thought to herself. She continued to hide behind the trees and stopped when the Dragon approached its nest. It was in a very small cave; A large amount of leaves had been collected and were wrapped around three large Dragon eggs.
'You're a girl Dragon,' she thought. She was clearly expecting her eggs to be hatching soon; The Dragon placed the fish in the middle of the eggs, she curled up around them and went to sleep.

The next day, the girl was at the same stream. Her fishing net laid across the bottom of the water. She waited for a herd of fish to swim above it and then pulled the sides of the net up, catching the fish in the middle. Her eyes were then drawn upwards as she felt heavy breathing on the top of her head. It was the same Dragon. The girls pupils widened as she looked into the Dragons firm, sharp eyes. She dropped her net and ran; The beast became distracted and began picking the fish up in her mouth. She looked behind to see that the Dragon wasn't looking and hid behind a rock, watching from a distance.
Her attention was then drawn from talking in the distance, coming up stream; She looked over, it was Pirates. Their village had been at war with them for many years now. They came onto their land, raiding the village, killing people and hunting the animals. The Dragon was unaware of the Pirates presence. They walked around the back of her, quietly drawing their swords, ready to attack.
'I can't just let them kill her, she didn't kill me so she doesn't deserve to die either!' She thought to herself.
Just as the Pirates were about to attack, she popped up from behind the rock,
"Look out!" She shouted at the Dragon. The Dragon stood up straight, looking at the girl and then turned around to see three Pirates, their swords drawn with a bloodthirsty expression smeared across their face. The beast growled. She shook her head, flexing the horns on her head.
One of the pirates lunged in, attempting to stab the beast, it dodged back and swiped the Pirate away with a flick of its tail. Another one went to lunge in. The tip of his sword made a small slash on the beast's chest; She then snapped her jaw at him, he fell back, his sword out of reach. She pinned him under her foot and then snapped at his neck, he would never breath again.
She was unaware that the third Pirate had snuck around the back of her, getting ready to attack. The girl moved from behind the rock, picking her axe up from beside her bag and tiptoed through the water, behind him. Just as he was about to attack, she swung her axe at him, right in his back; he let out a cry which drew the Dragons attention. He was then muted as the Dragon snapped at him. The Pirate who had been flicked with the Dragons tail had snuck off into the forest.

The girl pulled her axe out from the Pirates body; She washed it in the stream. She wasn't fond of killing but she was happy to know she had saved the beasts life. As she looked up, the Dragons face was up against hers. They instantly made eye contact; It felt like the Dragon was mentally thanking her. The Dragon then closed its eyes and lowered its head a little bit, she knew what the Dragon was trying to say.
The girl put down her axe, standing back slightly. She reached her arm out, looking away and closing her eyes. Her hand then pressed against the Dragons nose. She felt the heat from the Dragons body climb up her arm along with the puffs of air blast out her nose.
"I'm Megan," the girl said, pulling her hand away and opening her eyes. The Dragon opened its eyes and nuzzled her. Megan smiled.
Suddenly, the Dragon looked behind her, she saw the Pirate was gone and rushed off. Megan ran after her.

The Dragon approached her nest, she walked into the cave and let out a yelp. Megan ran in behind her and stopped by her side. The Dragon looked away from her nest; Her heart was broken, like the three Dragon eggs which had been smashed up by the pirate. She lay by the side of her nest, crying. Megan walked over and sat beside her. The Dragon laid its head on her lap. 'I can't have her upset like this..'
She picked up the Dragons head from her lap and looked her in the eyes,
"I know this is hard, and I know you're upset but I know somewhere that'll become like a family to you. They did to me, and I promise they will for you." The Dragon sighed, but understood what she was saying.
"Come on," Megan stood up, "I'll take you to a new home."
